Safe walking paths are designed with sidewalk block patterns on side streets where the road width is narrow and it is difficult to install actual sidewalk blocks, but where vulnerable pedestrian groups frequently travel. This design visually distinguishes the space.
A district official stated, "It makes it easier for drivers to recognize pedestrians, thereby safely protecting vulnerable pedestrians using the side streets."
Following a pilot installation of a safe walking path last year on Imun-ro 9-gil (Imun-dong), where senior centers and kindergartens are located, the district installed a total of 730 meters of safe walking paths at 10 locations including Hongneung Neighborhood Park (Hongneung Elementary School commuting route).
