Assemblyman Kim Hoe-jae: "Maritime Boundaries Should Remain as They Are to Guarantee the Livelihood of Yeosu Fishermen"
The area is clearly under Jeonnam Province's jurisdiction for administrative authority and living area
Urging "to maintain the current maritime boundary line according to Supreme Court precedents"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Kim Hoe-jae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (Yeosu-eul, Jeonnam), stated on the 9th regarding the Constitutional Court's final public hearing on the maritime boundary between Jeonnam and Gyeongnam, "The maritime boundary between Jeonnam and Gyeongnam, which has been maintained for over 100 years, should be preserved as it is to guarantee the livelihood of Yeosu fishermen."
Kim emphasized, "The area in question has been repeatedly managed by Yeosu City through various fishing permits, management, guidance, and enforcement over a long period," adding, "Since the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries has exercised legitimate administrative authority such as designating cultivation waters and establishing fishing ground development plans, the maritime areas of Jeonnam Province and Yeosu City are clearly defined."
Kim stated, "It must never happen that Yeosu fishermen lose the living grounds they have cultivated through active fishing activities," and expressed solidarity with the Jeonnam Maritime Boundary Preservation Committee, which has fought in Seoul, and with the Yeosu fishermen.
He continued, "Since the courts, including the 2015 Supreme Court ruling recognizing the maritime boundary line by the National Geographic Information Institute, have consistently ruled on the maritime boundary, I hope the Constitutional Court makes a wise decision to establish fishing order and protect the livelihood of Yeosu fishermen."
