Prime Minister Jeong Encourages All Overseas Diplomatic Chiefs on COVID-19 Response
'Urging a Proactive Role for Korean Diplomacy to Take a Leap Forward'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun delivered a message of encouragement and request to all heads of overseas diplomatic missions through a video conference on COVID-19 response held on the afternoon of the 9th, chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
First, Prime Minister Chung praised the efforts of the heads of overseas missions and their staff for supporting the safe return of approximately 42,000 overseas Koreans and the exceptional entry of Korean businesspeople despite the difficult circumstances exposed to the risk of COVID-19.
He continued, "There is great concern about recent COVID-19 confirmed cases among overseas mission staff and their families," and said, "The government will strive to ensure sufficient support is provided to local missions."
Furthermore, he urged, "Based on the diplomatic asset of 'K-quarantine,' which our citizens, medical personnel, and quarantine authorities have achieved through united efforts, I ask the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and overseas missions to play a proactive role so that our country's diplomacy can take a step forward."

Prime Minister Chung also requested, regarding the recent increase in imported confirmed cases, "Overseas missions should thoroughly carry out consular duties such as visa issuance in close cooperation with domestic quarantine authorities."
