Gwangju Dong-gu with Confirmed COVID-19 Cases Among 4-6 Year Olds, Drive-Through Screening Clinic in Operation
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, conducted drive-through testing on the 6th for children and parents after confirmed COVID-19 cases were identified on the 5th at a local daycare center involving a 4- and 6-year-old sibling classified as cases 113 and 114.
The drive-through testing method is a system that allows safe screening, examination, specimen collection, and vehicle disinfection to determine COVID-19 infection status. Suspected patients can be tested without leaving their vehicles.
On that day, Dong-gu collected specimens from 192 cases, including children, childcare staff, trainees, and their families.
The district expects that by operating the screening clinic amid a surge in suspected cases, it will save specimen collection time, dramatically increase the daily number of COVID-19 tests, and reduce the risk of infection by minimizing direct contact with those being tested.

Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, stated, “With the rapid increase in COVID-19 patients in the region, it is more urgent than ever to block the spread of infection locally. Through the operation of the drive-through screening clinic, we will focus all administrative efforts on early detection of confirmed cases, epidemiological investigations, and self-quarantine to prevent community transmission by providing rapid and accurate testing for suspected patients.”
