[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Jeonbuk National University announced on the 6th that it will provide a 'COVID-19 Special Scholarship' to all enrolled students to alleviate the financial burden caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The maximum amount is 196,000 KRW, which is 10% of the average tuition payment of 1.96 million KRW per person. The target students are those who paid tuition for the first semester and register for the second semester in principle. The scholarship will be applied as a credit on the second semester tuition bill. Students who do not register for the second semester can receive the scholarship upon returning to school. Students who withdrew or were expelled during the first semester are excluded from the scholarship. Graduates in August this year will receive the payment directly.

Jeonbuk National University estimates that approximately 1.9 billion KRW will be spent on this special scholarship. The university explained, "Despite difficult financial conditions such as freezing tuition fees for 12 years, we will secure funds through a tight budget to share the burden." The tuition refund was discussed for about a month through consultations between the university headquarters and the student council.
