'Pre-Job' Recruitment of 51 Positions with 556 Applicants, Averaging 11 to 1
Daegu Shinbo Recruits 8 Positions with 144 Applicants
Significantly Exceeding Last Year's 2 to 1 and This Year's 3.3 to 1 Ratios

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] Daegu City has recorded an unprecedented competition rate after recruiting participants for the 'Youth Pre-Job' program, which offers young people public institution administrative work opportunities for four months in the second half of this year with a monthly salary of about 1.8 million KRW.
In this youth job project, which was conducted over about 20 days last month by sector, 556 applicants competed for 51 positions, showing an average competition rate of 11 to 1. In the case of Daegu Credit Guarantee Foundation, 144 young people applied for 8 positions, recording the highest competition rate of 18 to 1.
This competition rate far exceeds the average of 3.5 to 1 in the first half of this year, when 71 people were recruited, marking the highest record since the project started in 2018.
The competition rates by public institution are ▲ Daegu Credit Guarantee Foundation 18 to 1 (8 positions, 144 applicants) ▲ Daegu Urban Corporation 18 to 1 (3 positions, 54 applicants) ▲ Daegu Facilities Corporation 12 to 1 (4 positions, 48 applicants) ▲ Daegu Cultural Foundation 12.3 to 1 (4 positions, 49 applicants) ▲ Daegu Metropolitan Transit Corporation 9.8 to 1 (4 positions, 39 applicants), etc.
By applicant age, there were 108 people (19.4%) aged 20 to 23, 350 people (63%) aged 24 to 27, 73 people (13.1%) aged 28 to 30, and 25 people (4.5%) aged 31 and over, with the late 20s age group being the largest.
Daegu City plans to announce the final successful candidates on the 28th after procedures such as personality tests, document screening, and interviews from the 8th to the 15th. Selected youths will work 40 hours a week from next month until November, gaining practical experience in administrative support at public institutions and receiving a salary of about 1.8 million KRW.
Daegu City's 'Youth Pre-Job' is a project that helps young people preparing for employment develop job competencies through diverse work experiences in the public sector. It has been promoted for three years since being selected for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's region-led youth job project competition in 2018. This year, with 540 million KRW in national funds secured, plus 860 million KRW from city funds and 120 million KRW from participating institutions, a total project budget of 1.52 billion KRW is used to support 132 youths.
Applications for 'Youth Pre-Job' participation have been increasingly competitive every year. Last year, 254 and 204 applicants competed for 122 positions each in the first and second halves, showing a competition rate of about 2 to 1. Earlier in the first half, 237 applicants competed for 71 positions, showing a competition rate of 3.3 to 1.

Kwon Osang, head of Daegu City's Job and Labor Policy Division, said, "Due to COVID-19, the local employment situation is not good, which seems to have caused the competition rate to reach an all-time high."
