Introduction of Audit Committee to Establish Iksan as an Integrity City
Improving Integrity through Expansion of Participatory Anti-Corruption Policies
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jae-hee] Iksan City, Jeonbuk Province, is introducing an Audit Committee to establish a culture of integrity. The introduction of this Audit Committee aims to independently conduct the review and resolution of audit results.
According to the city on the 3rd, the ‘Audit Committee,’ a collegiate audit body with enhanced independence and expertise, will be introduced for the first time in the province. The Audit Committee is a separate organization under the mayor, consisting of 3 to 5 members including the chairman, who will be appointed through an open recruitment process.
Prior to this, the city plans to firmly establish a foundation to leap forward as a leading institution of integrity by expanding participatory policies this year to improve integrity and create a healthy public service community.
First, each department will prepare and promote special measures tailored to their characteristics, such as integrity pledges or campaigns to improve integrity, and the Audit Officer will continuously monitor the implementation status.
Additionally, the frequency of integrity evaluations for senior public officials will be expanded from once to twice a year to encourage self-assessment of integrity levels and management of vulnerable areas. During the evaluation period, reports on corruption and unfair work processing by senior officials will also be collected.
Furthermore, for the first time this year, to enhance external integrity, the city has completed consultations to build a network for expanding the base of integrity with eight local public institutions including the Iksan Police Station, Fire Station, and Education Support Office, and will share various policies.
The operation of the Report Center for Improper Solicitation and Graft and the Support Center for Reporting Abuse of Power will be further strengthened, and if violations are detected, they will be reported or severely disciplined without exception.
In addition, every day, construction sites will be randomly selected for telephone monitoring of improper solicitation, provision of money, entertainment, or convenience by public officials, and abuse of power. Integrity text messages will be sent to contractors to encourage clean and fair transactions.
