Hyundai Rotem Secures 300 Billion KRW Order Including Obstacle-Clearing Tanks
[The Asia Business Daily, Reporter Yang Nakgyu] Hyundai Rotem has secured contracts worth a total of 300 billion won from the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, including an additional production project for obstacle-clearing tanks as well as overhaul projects for recovery tanks and bridge-laying tanks.
According to Hyundai Rotem on June 30, the company won an additional contract worth 236.6 billion won on this day, following the 174.6 billion won obstacle-clearing tank production project it secured in November last year.
Hyundai Rotem explained that the Defense Acquisition Program Administration expedited projects originally scheduled for the end of the year in order to support the defense industry, which has been struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other factors.
The obstacle-clearing tank is being introduced domestically for the first time and is designed to secure routes by removing mines and various obstacles in front. Hyundai Rotem expects that the equipment will enable safe and efficient operations in areas such as the Demilitarized Zone, where large numbers of mines are buried. The company plans to produce the tanks at its Changwon plant and deliver them by 2023.
