Naju City 'Donation Certificate for KEPCO University Establishment Site' Presentation Ceremony
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Han-hyuk] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 29th that it held the ‘KEPCO University Establishment Site Donation Certificate Handover Ceremony’ at the Booyoung Group headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul on the 28th.
The donation certificate handover ceremony was carried out as a fulfillment procedure of the ‘Campus Establishment Site Free Donation Agreement’ signed between Booyoung Group and the KEPCO University Foundation on August 20 last year, following a recent resolution by the Booyoung Housing Board of Directors.
About 50 people attended the ceremony, including Lee Se-jung, Acting Chairman of Booyoung Group, Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, Kim Hoe-chun, Vice President of KEPCO, and Shin Jeong-hoon, National Assembly member for Naju-Hwasun.
The site donated by Booyoung Group is 400,000㎡ (worth approximately 80.6 billion KRW), which is 53% of the entire Booyoung CC site (753,586㎡) in Naju Innovation City.
Booyoung Group transferred the ownership registration of the real estate to the KEPCO University Foundation as of the 29th.
Along with the donation and ownership transfer registration of the KEPCO University campus site, administrative procedures for next year’s groundbreaking are also progressing smoothly.
Earlier, in December last year, the city completed all necessary matters to allow the campus to be constructed at any time by announcing the urban management plan decision for the KEPCO University site, and is currently conducting detailed design services for the construction of urban infrastructure such as roads and water supply and sewage systems.
KEPCO also appointed Yoon Ui-jun, Research Director at Seoul National University, as the inaugural president candidate this month, following the Ministry of Education’s approval of the foundation establishment and completion of registration in April.
Currently, the hiring process for faculty and staff is underway in preparation for the university establishment approval application to the Ministry of Education.
The campus groundbreaking is expected to begin by the first half of next year at the latest, after completing the detailed design based on the architectural design competition winner announced in March and obtaining the implementation plan approval in the second half of this year.
Mayor Kang In-gyu said, “KEPCO University will become a world-class energy-specialized cluster-centered university, creating growth engines not only for Gwangju and Jeonnam but for the entire Republic of Korea along with the Energy Valley. We will continue to work closely with KEPCO on necessary preparations and support to ensure the university opens without any setbacks.”
