Booyoung Group announced on the 29th that on the 28th, it held a 'Certificate of Donation Ceremony for the Establishment Site of KEPCO University' at its headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul. Attending the event were Lee Se-jung, acting chairman of Booyoung Group, representing Chairman Lee Joong-geun, Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok, Naju Mayor Kang In-gyu, Woo Yoon-geun, advisor of the KEPCO University Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional Support Committee, Assemblyman Shin Jeong-hoon (Naju City and Hwasun County, Jeonnam), and Kim Hoe-chun, vice president of KEPCO.
This site donation follows the promise made last August to donate about half of the Naju Booyoung Country Club (total 750,000㎡) located in Bitgaram-dong, Naju, Jeonnam, as the establishment site for KEPCO University. The current appraised value of this site is 80.6 billion KRW.
With this donation, the plan to establish KEPCO University, aiming to open in March 2022, is now on track. KEPCO University, which will be a specialized energy republic university with a total enrollment of 1,000 students?400 undergraduates and 600 graduate students?is expected to become a cradle of industry-academia cooperation leading energy technology development not only in Korea but globally.
In particular, the selection of the Naju region in Jeonnam as the site for KEPCO University is known to have been influenced by Booyoung Group’s land donation. During the establishment process, where cost issues emerged as a key factor, the reduction of the financial burden for securing the site was highly evaluated from an economic perspective.
