'Masan Robot Land Hosts "Artificial Intelligence Robot Boat" Competition'
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kang Sharon] A competition to design, manufacture, and race boats equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) robot systems will be held at Masan Robot Land in Gyeongnam.
On the 26th, the provincial government signed a business agreement at the provincial office to successfully host the Intelligent Robot Technology-Based Autonomous Navigation Boat Competition (KABOAT 2020).
The agreement involved the Director of Industrial Innovation Bureau of Gyeongnam Province, the Director of Smart Innovation Industry Bureau of Changwon City, the President of Gyeongnam Robot Land Foundation, the President of the Korean Society of Naval Architects, and the Deputy Director of the Ship and Offshore Plant Research Institute affiliated with the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology.
The purpose of the agreement is for the institutions to closely cooperate for the successful hosting of the competition, the spread of local robot culture, and the development of related industries such as smart shipping, ports, and autonomous navigation.
The Autonomous Navigation Boat Competition will be held from August 12 to 14 at the Masan Robot Land Convention Center.
It is hosted by Gyeongnam Province, Changwon City, and the Ship and Offshore Plant Research Institute, and organized by the Korean Society of Naval Architects and the Gyeongnam Robot Land Foundation.
The competition involves operating boats equipped with robot systems on a designated course using remote control, autopilot, or autonomous navigation methods to compete for the best record.
Kim Hyun-soo, President of the Korean Society of Naval Architects, said, "We will do our best to successfully host the autonomous navigation boat competition jointly planned with the Ship and Offshore Plant Research Institute and contribute to nurturing talent in the fields of robotics and autonomous navigation."

Kim Young-sam, Director of the Industrial Innovation Bureau of the province, stated, "We will support this competition to establish itself as a representative event of the Robot Land Convention Center and serve as a foundation for fostering related industries."
