Gyeonggi Economic Science Institute Promotes 'Software Future Filling' Project
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Institute of Economy and Science jointly participated in the 'Software (SW) Future Filling' contest hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and were finally selected.
The Software Future Filling project is a program that establishes an SW education environment to provide quality software education to elementary and middle school students in information-disadvantaged areas.
With this contest selection, Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Institute of Economy and Science will invest a total of 7 billion KRW, including 3.5 billion KRW in national funds, over three years from this year to 2022 to build SW education centers, train SW professional instructors, and develop SW education programs.
To this end, the Gyeonggi Institute of Economy and Science plans to operate SW Future Filling Centers in two locations, Suwon and Uijeongbu, utilizing various infrastructures in the region such as the Pangyo Startup Campus and the Robot Experience Center.
The Gyeonggi Institute of Economy and Science will select and train educational instructors targeting young job seekers, women with career interruptions, and retirees within the province.
By utilizing 100 instructors annually as software education personnel, the Gyeonggi Institute of Economy and Science expects to contribute to job creation and economic revitalization within the province.
Additionally, to bridge the software education gap, they will operate software experience programs and visiting SW education programs that allow participants to experience Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, providing education to 3,000 people annually.
Kim Ki-jun, director of the Gyeonggi Institute of Economy and Science, emphasized, "Software is an essential competency in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution," adding, "With the foundation for quality education established through this contest selection, we will actively cooperate with education offices, related organizations, and local children's centers to foster a healthy software education ecosystem."
