Ahn Cheol-soo on In-guk-gong Controversy: "The Cause Is President Moon... Everything Has Become a Lottery"
Cheong Wa Dae Job Chief's Explanation: "It's Like Rubbing Salt into the Wounds of Youth"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party, criticized the controversy over the conversion of security screening personnel at Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) to regular positions on the 26th, saying, “The root cause is President Moon Jae-in,” and added, “President Moon gave short-term political publicity and popularity-driven orders without fundamental measures to resolve the dual labor market, and the order of the labor market was shaken and thrown into confusion by bureaucrats and agency heads competing for loyalty.”
At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Ahn said, “As a result, some people have been lucky, while others have inevitably fallen into conflicts between labor groups and conflicts with job seekers.”
Ahn stated, “There have been explanations that it is unrelated to job seekers preparing for office positions because the job series and compensation systems are different, but this is misleading the essence and pouring salt on the wounds of young people.”
He said, “The case of Incheon International Airport Corporation is no different from the old military practice of decorating the barracks visited by the division commander with the latest facilities while neglecting other outdated facilities,” and pointed out, “In the end, under this administration, living in an apartment has become like winning the lottery, and converting to a regular position has also become like winning the lottery. If everything depends on luck like a lottery, how can the despair of millions of young people who work diligently be compensated?”
He continued, “If Incheon International Airport Corporation converts to regular positions, as promised, all existing personnel and external job seekers must compete under thoroughly equal conditions,” and criticized, “If there are forces that dismiss young people’s demands and anger for social fairness as immature selfish complaints, they are the enemies of a fair society and the enemies of young people.”

Ahn also said, “There is another point that must be addressed. How will the Moon Jae-in administration deal with the reckless management and moral hazard of public institutions that are growing excessively compared to their functions and roles?” and asked, “Do they really not know that all of this deepens the socio-economic inequality structure of the Republic of Korea and passes debt onto future generations, or are they pushing this through to gain immediate political benefits by dividing the people?”
