Seoul City Newly Designates 10 Urban Regeneration Activation Areas Including Bukchon Gahoe District
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The Seoul Metropolitan Government has newly designated 10 areas, including the Bukchon Gahoe District in Jongno-gu, as Urban Regeneration Activation Areas.
On the 26th, Seoul announced that it held the 5th Urban Regeneration Committee meeting and approved the revision of the "Seoul 2025 Urban Regeneration Strategic Plan." The Urban Regeneration Strategic Plan is the highest-level statutory plan in the field of urban regeneration established by metropolitan cities and provinces under the "Special Act on the Promotion and Support of Urban Regeneration." This revision reflects the designation of new urban regeneration activation areas and boundary changes of previously designated areas since the second half of 2019.
Through this strategic plan revision, a total of 10 new urban regeneration activation areas were designated: six central city-type areas, two general neighborhood-type areas, and two national leading areas. The central city-type areas include ▲Bukchon Gahoe District ▲Hongje Station area ▲Hyochang Park area ▲Guui Station area ▲Pungnap Fortress area ▲Myeonmok Fashion Special Zone area. These areas are among the declining industrial, commercial, and historical-cultural specialized areas that were newly selected as central city-type urban regeneration activation areas on November 25 last year through the candidate site governance establishment project in 2019. The general neighborhood-type areas are ▲Gonghang-dong in Gangseo-gu and ▲Cheongun Hyoja Sajik-dong west of Gyeongbokgung Palace. These areas were selected as urban regeneration activation areas on November 5 last year through evaluation among aging residential areas where Hope Site projects were conducted from 2018 to 2019. The economically based Hongneung area and the general neighborhood-type Mok 3-dong were designated as national leading areas by the central government last November, and their activation plans were established and additionally reflected in this strategic plan.
In addition, for previously designated areas, a total of 11 boundary changes were made, including three minor cadastral error corrections, reflecting opinions collected through resident hearings and Urban Regeneration Committee reviews during the individual activation plan establishment process.
The city plans to officially announce the matters approved by the Urban Regeneration Committee through the city gazette in early July.
