Gyeongnam Province Conducts Satisfaction Survey for 1,000 Recipients of Gyeongnam Disaster Relief Fund
93.4% Intend to Revisit Local Stores and Traditional Markets Even After Disaster Relief Funds Are Exhausted
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Choi Hyun-joo] Gyeongnam Province announced on the 25th that the 'Gyeongnam-type Emergency Disaster Relief Fund,' which was distributed for 44 days from April 23 to June 5, helped stabilize the lives of residents facing difficulties due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and contributed to the recovery of the depressed local economy.
The 'Gyeongnam Emergency Disaster Relief Fund' provided a total of 181.1 billion KRW to 610,000 households with an income at or below 100% of the median income standard.
To measure the effectiveness of the 'Gyeongnam Emergency Disaster Relief Fund,' the province conducted a satisfaction survey targeting 1,000 beneficiary residents through Opinion Live Co., a professional public opinion research firm.
More than 92% of respondents expressed satisfaction with the Gyeongnam disaster relief fund and agreed with the support policy.
According to the survey, 91.1% of households receiving the Gyeongnam disaster relief fund used it at local stores or traditional markets, with 22.3% and 14.3% respectively using local stores and traditional markets they did not usually frequent.
Notably, 93.4% of respondents said they would revisit local stores or traditional markets even after exhausting the disaster relief funds.

Shin Jong-woo, Director of the Health and Welfare Bureau of Gyeongnam Province, stated, “Bringing up the issue of emergency disaster relief funds during the COVID-19 situation is one of the greatest changes brought about by the long-standing policy of local decentralization,” adding, “I believe this change is one of the various policies preparing for the post-COVID era.”
