Gyeongnam Province Hosts Simultaneous Sale Festival to Revitalize Major Commercial Districts and Traditional Markets
Promotion of Consumption in 96 Traditional Markets and 60 Alley Commercial Areas from June 26 to July 26
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Choi Hyun-joo] Gyeongnam Province announced on the 25th that it will hold consumer promotion events at 60 major alley markets and 96 traditional markets in the province to support small business owners who have suffered from the local commercial district recession and sharp sales decline due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
In March, the province allocated budgets to support small business owners in crisis within the local community, including 1.2 billion KRW for the Alley Small Business Owners Festival, 600 million KRW for the Traditional Market Simultaneous Sale Festa, and 600 million KRW for the Onnuri Gift Certificate Payback Event.
The ‘Gyeongnam Alley Small Business Owners Festival’ is a domestic demand recovery support project jointly promoted by the government and alley market operators to support small business owners affected by COVID-19.
Sixty alley markets in the province were selected, with 20 million KRW provided per market. Some markets, such as the Beol-yong-dong Shopping District Promotion Association in Sacheon City and the Palpo Shopping District Promotion Association, plan to enhance the quality of the event through self-funding.
By city and county, 10 alley markets in Changwon City, 6 each in Jinju, Gimhae, and Yangsan Cities, 3 each in Tongyeong, Sacheon, Miryang, and Geoje Cities, and 2 alley markets in each county will participate, totaling 3,704 stores across 60 markets in the province.
Additionally, starting July 1, a large-scale sale and festival event called the ‘Traditional Market Simultaneous Sale Festa’ will be held at 34 traditional markets in the province.
This event will involve 4,400 stores, and especially representative traditional markets in the province such as Masan Fish Market, Jinju Free Market, and Samcheonpo Yonggung Fish Market will offer discounts of 5-30% on major items for a certain period.
Furthermore, from July 8 to 21, the province will run the ‘Onnuri Gift Certificate Payback Event,’ which returns 5,000 KRW in Onnuri gift certificates to customers who purchase goods worth 50,000 KRW or more at traditional markets in the province.
