Hanwha Total Releases Juvenile Fish in Daesan Plant Waters
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Hanwha Total held a win-win regional event that contributed to protecting the marine ecology and fishery resources of the sea off Seosan and Daesan, Chungnam, and revitalizing the local economy by releasing juvenile fish together with local fishermen near the Daesan plant coastline.
On the 25th, Hanwha Total announced that it held the 'Juvenile Fish Release Event with Hanwha Total' in the sea off Samgilpo near the Daesan plant, attended by about 30 people including local fishermen, related personnel, and company executives and employees.
Sponsored by Hanwha Total and hosted by the Daesan Development Council and Hwagog Fishery Cooperative, a total of 250,000 juvenile rockfish worth about 200 million KRW and juvenile clams were released during this event.
The released juvenile fish and juvenile clams are expected to prevent the depletion of fishery resources in the sea near the Seosan and Daesan areas, where the population has recently been declining, contribute to stabilizing the marine ecosystem, and grow as a major source of income for local fishermen.
Hanwha Total, which has been making continuous efforts to coexist with the local community near the Daesan plant, has been conducting juvenile fish release events continuously since 2013, considering that many residents rely on fishing for their livelihood.
In addition, by sponsoring the 'Samgilpo Rockfish Festival,' one of the special product festivals in the Seosan area, it plans to contribute to revitalizing the local economy, which has been struggling due to COVID-19.
In this way, Hanwha Total is carrying out various activities to realize coexistence with the Seosan and Daesan areas where its business sites are located, based on the group's social contribution philosophy of 'Together, Far.'
To support various social contribution activities in the local community, Hanwha Total not only provides funds but also operates mobile volunteer services such as laundry trucks, meal trucks, and vehicles for the disabled, and supports study rooms for children from low-income families to assist vulnerable groups in the region. Furthermore, it regularly provides scholarships and school development funds so that local youth can realize their dreams and grow into talented individuals, and continuously offers new educational opportunities by holding environmental and science classes.
Especially this year, to help the local community overcome COVID-19, Hanwha Total's labor and management jointly raised a disaster fund of 100 million KRW to deliver masks, hand sanitizers, and purchase and donate protective suits necessary for quarantine activities to vulnerable groups.
In addition, Hanwha Total is leading coexistence with the local community through various activities such as public service activities at city halls and police stations, senior citizen events, cultural experience events for residents, kimchi-making events, crop purchasing, and support for fishing village experience villages.
