189 People in Self-Quarantine and Undergoing Diagnostic Testing After Close Contact with COVID-19 Case at Coupang Deokpyeong Logistics Center (Update)

[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Lim Juhyung] As a confirmed case of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) occurred at the Coupang Deokpyeong Logistics Center, diagnostic tests are being conducted on employees who had close contact with the confirmed case.

On the 25th, Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced that a total of 189 colleagues who had close contact with the confirmed case at the Coupang Deokpyeong Logistics Center were placed under self-quarantine and diagnostic tests are being carried out.

Among the 189 employees, 8 resided in Icheon City. The city immediately notified them to self-quarantine and also informed the respective cities and counties for those residing outside the city.

Additionally, the city is conducting active monitoring on other workers employed at the Coupang Deokpyeong Logistics Center, and all workplaces have completed disinfection and sterilization.

Earlier, on the previous day (the 24th), a contract worker in his 50s, Mr. A, residing in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, was confirmed positive, leading to the closure of the logistics center.

Coupang immediately provided the list of approximately 2,300 employees working at the Deokpyeong Logistics Center to the quarantine authorities on the same day.

According to the city, Mr. A was only engaged in packaging and shipping work on the first floor and did not eat meals in the cafeteria except for having snacks during the night shift. It was also confirmed that most logistics center employees wore masks, resulting in fewer close contacts.
