Tomorrow at Seoul Airport: 70th Anniversary Event of the 6.25 War
[Asia Economy Reporter Yang Nak-gyu] The 70th anniversary event of the Korean War will be held at 8:20 PM on the 25th at Seoul Airport in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. The event will be held under the theme "Salute to the Heroes," honoring those who dedicated themselves to protecting the country during the Korean War.
All attendees of this event will wear the "122,609 Taegeukgi" badge, symbolizing the nation's promise to honor the national mourning for the remains of the Korean War soldiers returning after 70 years and to find every one of the 122,609 soldiers who have not yet returned, showing special respect to the national defense soldiers.
Additionally, to mark the 70th anniversary of the Korean War, messages of friendship and peace from the heads of state of 22 UN member countries, including U.S. President Donald Trump, will be screened for the first time. Two surviving veterans whose contributions during the Korean War were confirmed after 70 years and 12 bereaved family members will be awarded the Military Merit Medal, while one surviving veteran and two bereaved family members will receive the Hwarang Military Merit Medal.
Furthermore, a gratitude medal (silver coin type) expressing thanks to over 84,000 surviving Korean War veterans will be presented to Cha Su-jeong, Vice President of the Korean War Veterans Association, representing the veterans. In addition, a Peace Plaque made by melting together metals from 22 participating countries, including U.S. military canteens and British veteran badges used during the Korean War, as well as barbed wire collected from the Battle of Arrowhead Ridge, will be awarded to the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Korea as a representative of the participating countries.
The event will be hosted by actor Choi Soo-jong and Army Captain Jeong Dong-mi from the Defense Media Agency, and will proceed in the order of the national ceremony, flower offering and incense burning, awarding of participation medals, screening of messages from UN member state leaders, awarding of the Peace Plaque, awarding of military merit medals and gratitude medals, commemorative speeches, dedication of military songs, and singing of the Korean War song.

Meanwhile, on the 24th, Defense Minister Jeong Kyeong-doo sent letters to the defense ministers of the participating countries to express gratitude on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War. Minister Jeong said, "We express our gratitude to the veterans of each country who sacrificed themselves to protect the freedom, democracy, and peace of the Republic of Korea, a country they did not even know," adding, "Based on the friendship and support of the participating countries, Korea has developed into a nation contributing to world peace and security through peacekeeping operations (PKO) and infectious disease response."
