Daejeon City Supports Game Companies' Overseas Expansion Through 'Full-Cycle' Assistance Program
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City announced on the 24th that it will launch the ‘Global One-Stop Advancement Support Project’ this month to assist local game companies in expanding overseas.
The support project targets 20 local game companies and provides assistance in deriving strategies for entering the global market, game testing and marketing, business matching, and strengthens companies’ market entry capabilities through on-the-job training for employees.
Previously, in 2016, the city established the Daejeon Global Game Center as part of a national government-funded project led by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with the Daejeon Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency.
Since then, the local game industry has grown from 14 companies in 2016 to 90 companies last year, achieving sales of 70.8 billion KRW and creating 476 jobs over the past four years.
In particular, this year, the city plans to invest a total budget of 3.8 billion KRW, including national funds, to focus on developing game content and strengthening growth to foster the local game industry.

Han Jong-tak, head of the Cultural Contents Division of the city, said, “Due to COVID-19, opportunities to enter overseas markets have decreased and domestic and international sales have declined, increasing difficulties for the local game industry. Reflecting these industry conditions, the city will significantly expand the scale of support this year to help the local game industry continue to grow.”
