Jang Kyung-ho, Iksan City Council Member, "Support for Dairoom Card Should Be Extended Until the End of the Year..."
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jaehee] The Iksan City Council in Jeonbuk has urged the executive branch to extend the COVID-19 support measures for the local currency Dairo-um Card until the end of the year.
On the 23rd, Jang Kyungho, a council member of Iksan City (photo), stated, “The economic situation is difficult due to COVID-19, and most of the disaster relief funds have been used. The additional support for the Dairo-um Card will end in July. We need to extend the 20% benefit for users of the Dairo-um Card until the end of the year.”
The Dairo-um Card, launched in January, provides support of 25,000 KRW, which is 5% of the charged amount, and 50,000 KRW, which is 10%, in months including the two major holidays. If 500,000 KRW is charged and used monthly, an individual receives an annual support of 350,000 KRW. Approximately 50,000 Iksan citizens are using this benefit.
In response, the city temporarily provided support from April to June to revitalize the local economy and help small business owners affected by COVID-19. When charging 1,000,000 KRW, 100,000 KRW was supported, and 10% of the amount used in the current month was supported in the following month, providing benefits up to 200,000 KRW.

Council member Jang urged again, “We need to consider extending consumption promotion measures such as local currency incentives. Considering the revitalization of the local economy and the difficult household situations of citizens, I strongly hope that the support benefits for the Dairo-um Card will be actively reviewed for extension until the end of the year.”
