Pohang City Cancels 'Festival and Experience Events' at Beaches Opening July 1
Opening of Six Local Beaches on July 1... Operation of COVID-19 Response Team
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Pohang City, Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 23rd that it will form and operate a beach response team for COVID-19 prevention at six beaches, including Yeongildae, which will open on July 1.
The response team, led by the vice mayor, will be a cooperative system consisting of the public health center, related organizations, on-site support team (Badashicheong), and quarantine management team (entrusted organization), responsible for overall COVID-19 prevention and quarantine at the beaches.
In addition, thorough preparations are being made, including appointing quarantine managers for each beach, installing temporary isolation facilities at each beach, stocking quarantine supplies and logs, and providing education for 100 workers deployed daily. Furthermore, as COVID-19 confirmed cases spread from the metropolitan area to local regions, all beaches have decided to cancel opening ceremonies, events, festivals, and experiential activities.
According to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries guidelines, beaches nationwide that attract more than 300,000 visitors must operate a congestion signal system that encourages visitor dispersion by confirming on-site reservations and allocations of sandy beach spots and checking beach crowding status.
Although Pohang area beaches are not included in the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries guideline criteria, Pohang City’s policy is to thoroughly manage quarantine by checking the temperature of parasol users and issuing wristbands, and increasing cleaning staff for each restroom from one to three.
