Mapo-gu, the Nation's First 'Vision Center for People with Brain Lesions' Established
Mapo-gu Selected for Seoul Autonomous District Contest Project, Secures 512.5 Million KRW Budget from Seoul City... Planned Installation on 2nd Floor of Woori Mapo Welfare Center (Nogosan-dong 1-49), Exclusive Area 404.49㎡... Comprehensive Service Center for Severe Brain Lesion Disabled to Open in November
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) announced that it has been finally selected for the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s ‘2020 Brain Lesion Disabled Vision Center Installation’ public contest project and secured a budget of 512.5 million KRW from the city to promote the project.
Among the autonomous districts of Seoul eligible for the contest, Mapo-gu is the only one selected this time and will become the first in the nation to establish a Brain Lesion Disabled Vision Center.
The Brain Lesion Disabled Vision Center provides comprehensive one-stop services including education, care, and health for severely brain lesion-disabled individuals who have difficulty advancing to higher education or finding employment, aiming to enhance their independence and reduce the caregiving burden on their families, thereby helping to eliminate blind spots in disability welfare.
The installation site is located on the 2nd floor of Woori Mapo Welfare Center at 1-49 Nogosan-dong, with an exclusive area of 404.49㎡, and is scheduled to open in November this year.
The district has continuously made efforts to ensure that disabled people are not marginalized in the local community.
When the disability grading system was abolished last year after 31 years, the district formed a dedicated public-private council for the disabled to establish a service support system and worked to support demand-centered case management for the disabled. In recognition of these efforts, it was selected as the best district among local governments nationwide and received the Minister of Health and Welfare Award.
Additionally, to enable disabled people to participate in sports activities without inconvenience, the district installed the Seongsan Billiard Hall equipped with electric wheelchair chargers, rest areas, and elevators for the disabled, allowing them to safely and conveniently attend billiard classes.
