Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education Provides 'Korean Culture Understanding Package' for Foreign and Multicultural Students
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 22nd that it will distribute 'Understanding Korean Culture Packages' containing COVID-19 prevention supplies to foreign and newly arrived multicultural students.
Currently, a total of 724 foreign and newly arrived multicultural students are studying at 235 elementary, middle, high, and special schools in Daegu (as of April 1). These packages will be delivered directly to the students through their respective schools by the 24th.
The package, contained in an eco-bag, includes one copy of "Korean Culture Didimdol," a Korean culture understanding booklet produced by the National Institute for Lifelong Education, one set of traditional games (Gonggi, Yut), 12 health masks, 5 dental masks, and one 430ml hand sanitizer.
So far, the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education has made various efforts to support multicultural students' adaptation to school life and remote learning, including producing and providing multilingual introductory videos for remote learning platforms and operating a multilingual counseling call center for remote classes. Recently, to support remote learning for multicultural students, 350 smart devices and protective cases were distributed to multicultural education policy schools in early June.

A representative from the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education stated, "The Understanding Korean Culture Package will greatly help multicultural students who find Korean culture unfamiliar and have difficulty adapting to better understand Korean culture," adding, "We will continue to provide support so that multicultural students can adapt well to Korea and establish a healthy identity."
