United Future Party Foreign Affairs Special Committee "Missile Defense System Must Be Established Immediately... North Korea's Denuclearization Is a Lie"
[Asia Economy Reporter Won Dara] The United Future Party has urged the establishment and strengthening of a missile defense system to prepare for North Korea's provocations.
On the afternoon of the 21st, Shin Won-sik, a member of the United Future Party, said at the '2nd General Meeting of the United Future Party's Foreign Affairs and Security Special Committee' held at the National Assembly, "North Korea's claim over the past two years that it had the will for denuclearization has been completely proven false," adding, "While making efforts for practical denuclearization, we must also be able to protect the people's property immediately. What must be done right now is the establishment of a missile defense system."
He continued, "So far, the Moon Jae-in administration has said that we can do it ourselves without relying on the United States, but that takes a lot of time and requires tremendous technological development. This means the success is uncertain," emphasizing, "The easy way is to integrate the South Korea-US missile defense systems."
He further stated, "First, the '3 No's policy promised to China should be completely abolished, and the missile defense system should be elevated to a high level like those established by Japan, Israel, and NATO," adding, "By linking the excellent US strike assets as if they were our own and developing through technological cooperation, we can accelerate the South Korea-US missile system."
Jo Tae-yong, also a member of the United Future Party, said, "North Korea is abandoning denuclearization talks at a level different from previous provocations against the South and is strengthening its nuclear forces," adding, "For us, North Korea's nuclear armament has become a reality, and we must refine the South Korea-US alliance."
He continued, "It is necessary to resume South Korea-US joint exercises to solidify the combined defense posture and to faithfully participate in sanctions against North Korea," adding, "The transfer of wartime operational control should be done when conditions are met, rather than being rushed by time."
Park Jin, chairman of the United Future Party's Foreign Affairs and Security Special Committee, criticized, "Even now, the government should review the manual and take measures regarding North Korea's provocation scenarios," adding, "However, there are concerns that the government is instead taking a more submissive stance toward North Korea than before."
He added, "It is very regrettable that even at this moment when the people's property and lives are threatened, the National Assembly is in deadlock and cannot discuss matters in a bipartisan manner," urging, "We hope the Democratic Party will stop its arrogance and reckless behavior now and respond to our call that, although the stalled standing committees are not functioning, the ruling and opposition parties can come together for bipartisan cooperation."

Regarding the next Minister of Unification, he emphasized, "There are several people currently mentioned in the media regarding the Minister of Unification, but a wrong message that they will take a more conciliatory stance toward North Korea's blatant provocations and compromise must not be sent. We urge the Moon Jae-in administration to carry out a proper personnel reshuffle."
