First Arrest of a Man in His 50s for Assaulting Bus Driver Over 'Mask Wearing Request'
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Je-hoon] The Gwangjin Police Station in Seoul announced on the 20th that they have arrested a man in his 50s, Mr. A, on charges of assaulting a bus driver who requested him to wear a mask before boarding, under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
The Seoul Eastern District Court conducted a pre-arrest detention hearing (warrant review) in the afternoon and issued an arrest warrant for Mr. A.
Since the mandatory mask-wearing on public transportation was enforced on the 26th of last month to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), this is the first time an arrest warrant has actually been issued related to disputes over this matter.
