United Future Party: "Democratic Party's 'Saving Han Myeong-sook' Denies Rule of Law"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] At the plenary meeting of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee held on the 18th, the Future United Party opposed the committee members' demand that the Supreme Prosecutors' Office Inspection Department directly investigate the case of former Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook, calling it a "rescue of Han Myeong-sook."
Hwang Gyu-hwan, deputy spokesperson of the United Party, said in a statement on the 19th, "The legislative body, which is the beginning of the rule of law, is trying to overturn even a past final guilty verdict by the person responsible for the national rule of law."
He pointed out, "This is a case that has already ended, and even all 13 Supreme Court justices judged former Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook's charges as guilty," adding, "But now they say not guilty. They are raising their voices holding documents that were submitted as evidence from the first to the third trial and have already been legally judged."
He continued, "Now that they have 176 seats, do they think they can push anything through by force? Do they think that with vague suspicions, if it is a matter of 'our side,' they can overturn all past investigations and trials?"

Deputy spokesperson Hwang said, "At yesterday's Legislation and Judiciary Committee meeting, they openly confronted the prosecution regarding case assignments, and in the process, even staged a farce where Minister Chu and ruling party lawmakers seemed to engage in a heated debate," adding, "Both the Democratic Party, which pressured by bringing up a six-year-old case immediately after seizing the chairmanship of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, and Minister Chu, who is the top official of prosecution administration but raised prosecution responsibility in a detached manner, are abnormal in the eyes of the public."
