Is There a Public Official in Yangcheon-gu Who Donated Blood 100 Times?
Social Welfare Officer in Sinjeong 2-dong Awarded Red Cross 'Blood Donation Merit Honor' for 100 Donations... Donated Leukocytes Through Over 4-Hour Transfusion to Acute Leukemia Patient
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] "Were you afraid of having your blood drawn? The fear lasts only for a moment. When I think that it is used for those who truly need it, the sense of fulfillment and happiness grows exponentially with each donation."
A public official from Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) has become a hot topic for having donated blood 100 times.
The person in question is Jeong Gwang-jun, an administrative officer in charge of social welfare in Sinjeong 2-dong.
Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the number of blood donors has sharply decreased, causing difficulties in blood supply. Amid this, Officer Jeong has donated blood 100 times, earning a place in the Korean Red Cross Hall of Fame.
Considering that the amount of blood donated by an adult male in one session is 400ml, Officer Jeong has shared an amount of blood equivalent to 80 bottles of 500ml mineral water with others.
Officer Jeong recalls most vividly the time he heard a radio story about a patient suffering from acute leukemia who urgently needed a white blood cell transfusion. He immediately rushed to the intensive care unit at Seoul National University Hospital, visited for three consecutive days, and donated white blood cells through a transfusion lasting over four hours.
Jeong, who maintains his health through regular exercise to continue donating blood, said his humble dream is to keep donating as long as his health permits.

Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, "Donating blood 100 times is impossible without a noble spirit of sacrifice," and added, "In these times when blood supply is difficult due to COVID-19, I hope Officer Jeong serves as a role model and that blood donation participation spreads widely."
