30s Chinese Man Jumps into Sea to Stop Girlfriend's Suicide, Dies
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Bong-ju] A man in his 30s from China drowned after jumping into the sea to rescue his girlfriend who was attempting suicide by jumping into the water.
According to the Coast Guard and Incheon Fire Headquarters on the 18th, at 1:02 a.m. that day, a 119 emergency call was received reporting a person had fallen into the sea near Geonpyeong Port in Ganghwa-gun, Incheon.
Responding to the call, the Coast Guard and 119 rescue team found a 32-year-old Chinese national, A, at approximately 2.7 meters offshore northwest of Oepo-ri near Geonpyeong Port at 1:36 a.m. They rescued him, provided emergency treatment, and transported him to the hospital, but he ultimately passed away.
Police investigation revealed that A, who lived in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, jumped into the sea to rescue his girlfriend, B, a 36-year-old Chinese national, who had jumped in attempting suicide. He was swept away by the current and died.
