Gurye-gun Launches Special Monitoring and Crackdown on Environmental Pollution Activities
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yuk Miseok] Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 17th that it will conduct special crackdowns from June to August targeting major riversides, wastewater, air and sewage, livestock manure discharge facilities, and waste disposal companies.
The county has organized and operates its own inspection team to crack down on environmental pollution acts such as illegal dumping of environmental pollutants stored or discarded at business sites, taking advantage of the rainy season and summer heavy rains.
This crackdown is carried out to prevent pollutants from entering public water bodies along with rainwater due to heavy rains through pre-inspection of discharge facilities at business sites, and to prevent the occurrence of green algae and illegal environmental pollution acts in advance.
The county will conduct prior publicity and guidance in June, followed by intensive monitoring and crackdowns from July to early August. In August, it will proceed in three stages including facility restoration and technical support.
Administrative measures such as facility improvement orders and fines will be imposed on violating businesses based on the crackdown results, and strong actions such as prosecution will be taken against businesses that intentionally and habitually violate regulations.

A county official stated, “We will thoroughly monitor illegal acts that take advantage of the difficulties in crackdowns during heavy rains to fundamentally block environmental pollution acts,” and added, “Since there are limits to thorough crackdowns and monitoring with limited administrative power during the special crackdown period, we ask for the participation of residents in reporting environmental pollution.”
