'Korea Donghaeng Sale', from the 26th to the 12th of next month
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 17th that the "Korea Together Sale," aimed at overcoming the COVID-19 crisis and boosting consumption, will be held nationwide for 17 days from the 26th of this month to the 12th of next month. Jung Dongwon, a contestant from "Mr. Trot," will promote the event by rewriting his song "Hyodohapsida" to "Donghaenghapsida."
This event involves all economic players participating together, including large corporations in manufacturing and distribution sectors such as home appliances, automobiles, department stores, and large marts (23 companies), online shopping malls (16), traditional markets nationwide (633), neighborhood supermarkets (about 5,000), livestock and fisheries industries, dining, and tourism. The Ministry of SMEs and Startups explained that it is expected to serve as an opportunity to recover deferred consumer demand caused by COVID-19 through large-scale discount and promotional events.
Large-scale discount events will be held both online and offline. Sixteen shopping malls including Gmarket, Coupang, and 11st will offer discounts of up to 30-40%. On the "Gachisapsida" platform, products will be sold at prices discounted up to 87%.
At traditional markets and shopping districts, an event will be held where 20% of the purchase amount on the day will be paid back in the form of Onnuri gift certificates, up to a maximum of 40,000 KRW. At Zero Pay affiliated stores, a 5% refund will be given for payments over 5,000 KRW.
Neighborhood supermarkets will supply eight agricultural products such as onions, potatoes, and cucumbers at prices discounted 80-90% compared to wholesale market prices and sell them cheaply. About 20 products including coffee, beverages, and noodles will also be offered at discounts ranging from 20% to 50%.
Department stores, large marts, home appliance, and automobile industries have also prepared special discounts and various events. The livestock and fisheries industries will conduct on-site sales of eggs and duck products by their respective associations and will hold a discount event for sea eel, which has high domestic demand in summer (June 18 to July 8), in cooperation with large marts.
The dining industry will hold a Korean restaurant discount event "Korea Gourmet" (250 establishments) with discounts of 20% or more and a "Food Festa" event (June 17 to September 17) to revitalize dining consumption. During the "Special Travel Week" (July 1 to 19), exclusive transportation passes will be launched, and themed travel programs based on life cycle stages will be operated.
Entertainers affiliated with SM Entertainment will promote products from small and medium enterprises and small business owners. They plan to sell products via live commerce from Namdaemun Market, Sungnyemun, and the Olympic Gymnastics Stadium studio. Government officials including Minister Park Young-sun of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and celebrities will also conduct live commerce broadcasts.
