Samsung Electronics Giheung Plant COVID-19 Confirmed Case... "Factory Operating Normally"
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] On the 17th, one subcontractor employee working at Samsung Electronics Giheung Plant in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), leading to the closure of some floors in the research building.
The confirmed case was working in an office space separate from the semiconductor production line, and it has been confirmed that there is no impact on factory operations.
According to Samsung Electronics and Yongin City, at around 11:30 a.m. on the same day, a male employee from a facility management subcontractor working in the SR3 research building at the Giheung Plant tested positive.
The employee was performing facility management duties on the basement level 2 of the SR3 research building and was informed by an external medical institution that he had been in contact with another confirmed case, leading him to undergo a COVID-19 test on the 16th.
Samsung Electronics disinfected and closed the basement level 2 of the research building where the confirmed employee worked immediately after the case was identified. All employees who had close contact with this employee were sent home.
