A Youth Community Space Will Be Created in Gunwi, Gyeongbuk, Inspired by the Movie 'Little Forest'
Selected for Ministry of Interior and Safety Population Decline Response Project, Secures 400 Million KRW National Funding
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 16th that Gunwi-gun's 'Youth Shared Cultural Vault Creation Project' was finally selected in the population decline and low birthrate response project competition hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, securing 400 million KRW in national funding.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety's population decline and low birthrate response project competition is a project that discovers and intensively supports region-customized policies aimed at inducing settlement of young and middle-aged groups, the core agents of regional vitality.
In May, among projects submitted by 34 local governments nationwide, after document and on-site evaluations and final screening, five projects were finally selected in the population decline category: Gunwi-gun in Gyeongbuk, Goseong-gun in Gangwon, Buyeo-gun in Chungnam, Cheongyang-gun in Chungnam, and Namwon-si in Jeonbuk.
The selected 'Youth Shared Cultural Vault Creation Project' in Gunwi-gun is a project that invests a total of 1 billion KRW to establish communication spaces, collaborative workshops, and media creator rooms in the Ubo-myeon area of Gunwi-gun, creating a shared base for young people dreaming of hope in rural areas.
In particular, in Gunwi, the setting of the movie 'Little Forest,' a community space will be created using the old Saemaeul Geumgo building to increase young people's satisfaction with rural living and promote stable and long-term settlement.
Lee Won-kyung, Director of the Child and Women's Happiness Bureau of Gyeongbuk Province, emphasized, "To overcome the crisis of low birthrate and local extinction, organic cooperation and consensus formation among central government ministries, local governments, and local communities are important," adding, "We will strive to discover innovative policies to respond to the regional population decline caused by low birthrate and aging."
