Prime Minister Jeong: "Fully Committed to Accelerating Economic Recovery and Rebound"
"'Prepare to Sustain the Domestic Recovery Trend with the 'Korea Together Sale''"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said on the 16th, "Signs of improvement are gradually appearing recently in areas such as jobs and exports," adding, "The government will fully support these recovery signals with policies to expedite economic recovery and a new leap forward."
On the same day, Prime Minister Chung presided over the 31st Cabinet meeting at the Government Complex Sejong and stated, "The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) forecasted that our country will show the best growth rate among OECD countries this year due to effective quarantine measures."
He especially urged, "Related ministries should prepare thoroughly to ensure that the domestic demand recovery trend continues with the 'Korea Together Sale' starting next week, following the emergency disaster relief funds."
Prime Minister Chung mentioned, "At a time when the importance of global supply chain management has increased due to COVID-19, it is also important to make our country a safe and attractive production base."
He continued, "The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and related ministries should focus their capabilities on regulatory innovation and support to attract domestic and foreign companies in materials, parts, equipment, and advanced industries, and to promote investment."
Furthermore, he said, "COVID-19 is a crisis, but it is an opportunity for non-face-to-face industries," adding, "Financial authorities should continue to review the entire non-face-to-face financial sector to ensure that innovative financial services can be continuously launched and grow, and support the supplementation of vulnerable areas."
Prime Minister Chung stated, "The positive evaluation of our economy despite difficulties owes greatly to the success of quarantine," but pointed out, "However, there is no full stop in quarantine."
He added, "If we become complacent and fail in quarantine, everything will be in vain," urging, "Each ministry should keep in mind that policies can only succeed when based on thorough quarantine."
He also appealed, "I ask the public to continue participating in social distancing so that our economy can overcome COVID-19 and rise again."
Prime Minister Chung also noted, "Although everyone is going through a difficult time due to COVID-19, there are those for whom this time of social distancing is even harsher," pointing out, "As welfare facilities have suspended operations, the burden on people with developmental disabilities who urgently need care and their families has increased."
