GS25, Over 63,000 Taegukgi Badges Sold Out Early Online
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] The Taegeukgi badge sold by the convenience store GS25 is gaining popularity.
GS Retail, which operates the convenience store GS25, announced on the 16th that all 62,570 online units of the 90,000 Taegeukgi badges distributed on a first-come, first-served basis through the ‘The Pop’ app and 144 GS25 stores since the 15th were sold out in just one day.
Right after 10:30 AM on the 15th, when GS Retail’s exclusive app ‘The Pop’ began distributing the Taegeukgi badges on a first-come, first-served basis, the app recorded a peak of over 500,000 simultaneous users. With more than eight times the number of applicants flooding the app, access was temporarily delayed. Afterwards, by 4 PM, all Taegeukgi badges had been claimed.
Interest in the Taegeukgi badges was also intense at the 144 GS25 stores distributing them on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors came to collect the badges, and phone calls inquiring about badge availability flooded the stores.
The 122,609 Taegeukgi campaign, which must be pursued to the end, was planned to honor the dedication of 122,609 fallen soldiers of the Republic of Korea Army who have not yet returned to their families as of this year, the 70th anniversary of the Korean War.
GS25 participated in this campaign by distributing limited-edition Taegeukgi badges designed with the Taegeukgi motif. The badge symbolizes the moment when, after the remains of Korean War veterans are exhumed, a Taegeukgi is draped over them and a moment of silent tribute is paid, capturing the gaze of onlookers. It was jointly developed through a public-private partnership between the 70th Anniversary Korean War Project Committee and the Kwangwoon University Public Communication Research Institute.
