They say "Kkeutjang Development Competition" instead of "Hackathon Competition"
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Institute of the Korean Language recommended on the 16th to replace the term ‘hackathon 大會 (hackathon daehoe)’ with the Korean term ‘끝장 개발 대회 (Kkeutjang Gaebal Daehoe)’ meaning ‘Ultimate Development Competition.’ They also suggested ‘끝장 토론 (Kkeutjang Toron)’ as the Korean alternative for ‘hackathon 討論 (hackathon toron).’
A ‘hackathon’ refers to an event where information and communication planners, developers, designers, and others form teams to generate ideas within a limited time to complete a specific product or plan. Common tasks include applications, web services, and business models. A ‘hackathon discussion’ means continuously generating ideas over a long period, like running a marathon, to complete the development or planning of a specific product. Originally used frequently in software development or programming, it has recently been widely used in various fields.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Institute of the Korean Language decided on these alternative terms at the Saemal Meeting held from the 8th to the 10th. The Saemal Meeting is a committee that provides Korean alternatives easily understood by the general public before difficult foreign neologisms spread. Experts from various fields such as Korean language, foreign languages, education, publicity and publishing, information and communication, and media participate. The Ministry and the Institute plan to continuously promote the use of these alternatives, led by government ministries and media outlets.
