Gyeongnam Province Holds 1st Public Debate on Expanding Public Healthcare in Western Gyeongnam

View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Choi Hyun-joo] Gyeongnam Province announced on the 15th that it held the ‘1st Public Debate for Expanding Public Healthcare in Western Gyeongnam’ to prepare expansion plans and policy recommendations for public healthcare in Western Gyeongnam.
The debate held on the 13th marked the starting point for designing the next 100 years of public healthcare in Western Gyeongnam. It proceeded with the appointment ceremony of the citizen participation group, a special lecture on public healthcare, followed by presentations on the current status and key issues of public healthcare as the first public agenda, and discussions by experts and breakout groups.
The main discussion points of the citizen participation group on the first public agenda, ‘Current Reality of Public Healthcare in Western Gyeongnam,’ revealed the following problems: ▲lack of emergency medical systems ▲insufficient level of medical staff’s clinical skills ▲shortage of essential and specialized medical departments ▲poor accessibility to medical institutions ▲lack of post-care and rehabilitation systems.
Subsequently, the ‘Key Tasks for Improving Public Healthcare’ were identified as ▲establishment of public hospitals ▲securing accessibility to medical facilities ▲enhancing medical staff expertise (training medical personnel or recruiting excellent external personnel with incentives) ▲building cooperative systems with private medical institutions ▲securing emergency medical systems.
Attending the debate, Deputy Governor Ha Byung-pil said, “I hope this public discussion will lead to a public healthcare system that benefits the residents of Western Gyeongnam,” and added, “I expect the best alternatives to emerge through the mature civic consciousness and capabilities of the residents of Western Gyeongnam.”
