Gyeongnam Province Honors 4 Winners at Women’s Skills Development Center Functional Skills Competition
Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals Sweep Top Ranks in Two Fields: Hanbok Design and Fashion Design
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Choi Hyun-joo] Gyeongnam Province announced on the 15th that the Gyeongnam Women's Capability Development Center achieved a great success at the 2020 Gyeongnam Regional Skills Competition, where 4 out of 14 students enrolled in two courses in Hanbok costume design won awards: 3 medals in Hanbok design (gold, silver, bronze) and 1 bronze medal in costume design.
The competition was hosted by Gyeongnam Province and supported by the Korea Industrial Human Resources Corporation Gyeongnam Branch, and was held over five days from June 8 to 12 across four regions?Changwon, Jinju, Sacheon, and Gimhae?and six venues (including Changwon Mechanical Technical High School).
The provincial skills competition is held to discover outstanding skilled technicians and boasts the highest prestige in selecting experts in technical and skilled fields within the province. This year, 427 competitors participated across 48 occupations, including Poly Mechanics.
However, the results are especially meaningful considering the difficulties faced, such as the competition being postponed three times due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the center’s training being suspended for about three months.
Winners receive prize money of 500,000 KRW for gold, 300,000 KRW for silver, and 200,000 KRW for bronze medals, along with the qualification to represent the province at the National Skills Competition held in Gunsan, Jeonbuk, in September, and benefits such as exemption from the practical test of the national technical qualification for skilled workers.
