Despite COVID-19, Korea-ASEAN Startup 'Policy Roadmap' Development Begins
Ministry of SMEs and Startups Holds Kickoff Video Conference for 'Korea-ASEAN Startup Policy Roadmap'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development announced on the 15th that they held an online kick-off meeting for a joint study to establish the 'Korea-ASEAN Startup Policy Roadmap.'
The Korea-ASEAN Startup Policy Roadmap is a follow-up measure to implement the 'Korea-ASEAN Startup Partnership' reflected in the joint chair statement of the Korea-ASEAN Special Summit held in Busan last November. Based on a survey of startup ecosystem policies and current status, it aims to address the imbalance in the startup ecosystem within ASEAN and lay the foundation for building systematic startup cooperation projects with ASEAN in the future.
Due to COVID-19, the kick-off meeting was held via video conference and was attended by representatives of the SME Coordinating Committee from 10 ASEAN countries, government officials and private sector experts in charge of startup policy formulation from 11 Korea-ASEAN countries, and an OECD startup official also observed the meeting.
At this kick-off meeting, Korea presented the direction for promoting the policy roadmap, future schedules, survey and cooperation directions, and engaged in in-depth discussions with ASEAN countries. It also provided an opportunity to share each country's startup policies and current status to enhance mutual understanding and consensus.
