Jungang University Lee Jeongje, Grand Prize at the 57th National Newcomer Dance Competition

[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] Lee Jeongje, a graduate student at Chung-Ang University Graduate School of Practical Arts, won the Grand Prize (Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award) at the 57th National New Dance Competition.
Hosted by the Korean Dance Association, the National New Dance Competition is a representative gateway for emerging dancers. It began in 1963 as the New Artist Award in the dance category to discover talented individuals who will lead the dance world. This year, a total of 189 participants competed fiercely across the categories of Korean traditional dance, Korean traditional masterpiece dance, Korean creative dance, modern dance, and ballet.
On the 12th, at the final round of the 57th National New Dance Competition held at the Rowoon Art Hall in the Korea Artists Center, Lee Jeongje earned the honor of the Grand Prize with the performance of 'Imaebang-ryu Seungmu.' In the men's Korean creative dance category, Kim Hyunwoo (a graduate of Sungkyunkwan University) received the Gold Prize for his work titled 'Dawn, East of Labor.' Both Lee Jeongje and Kim Hyunwoo will receive benefits as artistic personnel designated by the Military Manpower Administration.

At the competition, gold, silver, and bronze prizes were awarded separately to men and women in four categories (Korean traditional dance, Korean creative dance, modern dance, ballet), and in the masterpiece dance category, gold and silver winners were selected in a combined male and female category, with a total of 28 recipients. Among the winners in the modern dance category, the top two men and women will be exempted from the domestic preliminary round of the '2020 Korea International Modern Dance Competition,' and all winners in the ballet category will be exempted from the domestic preliminary round of the '2020 Korea International Ballet Competition.'
