Gyeongju City Expands Resident Reporting System for Illegal Parking in 'Children Protection Zones'
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongju City, Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 14th that starting from the 29th, the illegal parking and stopping zone resident reporting system will be expanded and operated to include the school zone in front of elementary school main gates, making a total of five locations.
The existing four major illegal parking and stopping prohibited zones, which have been in operation since April last year, are ▲ within 5 meters of fire hydrants ▲ within 5 meters of intersection corners ▲ within 10 meters of bus stops ▲ on crosswalks or encroaching on stop lines.
However, while the existing four major illegal parking and stopping prohibited zones resident reporting system operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the school zones are limited to weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., the time period when traffic accidents occur most frequently.
The reporting targets are vehicles violating parking and stopping regulations on the road sections in front of the main gates of 43 elementary school school zones within the jurisdiction. Reporters can upload two or more photos taken at one-minute intervals from the same spot, clearly showing the violation area, vehicle number, and shooting time, to the Safe Report smartphone app.
Gyeongju City will conduct a pilot operation and guidance only for reports received by the 31st of next month, and from August 3rd, fines will be imposed in earnest. Along with this, the city plans to significantly expand safety facilities by installing 11 signal devices, 6 unmanned enforcement devices, and 3 pedestrian fence barriers in the school zones.
