North Korea: "South Korea will now regret and suffer... No recovery possible in inter-Korean relations"
North Korea's Jang Kum Chol, Head of the United Front Department, Statement
"Trust in the South Korean Authorities Shattered"
"Do Not Want to Face South Korea Again"
North Korea's state-run media, Korean Central TV, reported on the 9th at 12:00 that all communication contact channels between the South and North would be blocked and discarded. The photo shows an announcer reading the related report.
Jang Geum-chol, head of the United Front Department of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, stated on the 12th, "The time that flows from now on will truly be regretful and painful for the South Korean authorities."
On the same day, Jang issued a statement titled "Inter-Korean relations have already reached an irreparable state," saying, "Through this incident, the trust we tried to have in the South Korean authorities has been shattered."
He referred to the Blue House's announcement the previous day to thoroughly crack down on the distribution of leaflets to North Korea, saying, "The Korean proverb 'locking the barn after the horse is stolen' is not wrong," and pointed out, "For us, suspicion outweighs trust."
Jang said, "Listening to the Blue House's response, there is a scent of atonement and reflection, and the will for strict measures seems plausible," but added, "However, we cannot shake off the suspicion that this is a scheme concocted by the Blue House to escape the current crisis by scheming."
He blamed South Korea for the current breakdown in inter-Korean relations. Jang said, "The South Korean authorities have been watching left and right, up and down, and only spreading flowery words," and added, "It is not because words were insufficient or documents were not properly left behind that inter-Korean relations have come to this state."
He claimed, "Because they had no will to fulfill their words and promises, no power to carry them out, and were powerless and incompetent, inter-Korean relations have become like this."
Jang emphasized, "Who would listen sincerely to those who turn agreements and declarations solemnly made by North and South, hand in hand, carefully examining every character and stamping documents to solemnly proclaim to the world, into mere scraps of paper, no matter how smoothly they speak? If they tried to gloss over today's situation, which has spread fiercely with the volcanic anger of our people, with such a cheap play and frivolous tongue, there would be no greater foolish miscalculation, and it would rather become another mockery against us."
