Kim Geon Deputy Minister Holds Video Conference with Chinese Foreign Minister... Discusses Trilateral Cooperation among Korea, China, Japan, and ASEAN+3
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the morning of the 11th, Kim Geon, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a 'Korea-China High-Level Officials Video Conference' with Luo Zhaohui, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, and discussed trilateral cooperation among Korea, China, and Japan, ASEAN+3 cooperation, and mutual areas of interest, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
During this meeting, both sides exchanged views on the direction of trilateral cooperation, including the issue of holding the Korea-China-Japan Summit this year, for which our country is the chair.
Both Korea and Japan agreed to maintain close communication and consultation to hold the trilateral summit within this year despite difficulties caused by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Furthermore, to respond to the impacts caused by COVID-19, they agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation to deepen and expand trilateral cooperation.
Additionally, both sides exchanged opinions on ways to enhance trilateral cooperation at the ASEAN+3 (APT) level. They evaluated that the ASEAN+3 Special Video Summit held in April served as an opportunity to consolidate the will for cooperation among regional countries in responding to COVID-19, and shared the recognition to continuously cooperate to ensure that follow-up measures of the meeting are faithfully implemented.

An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained, "This meeting was held as part of communication between high-level officials responsible for trilateral cooperation among Korea, China, and Japan," adding, "Both sides agreed to continue close communication and consultation to promote trilateral cooperation in the future."
