Gangdong-gu Expands Public Jobs to Overcome Employment Crisis Amid Prolonged COVID-19 Pandemic
Recruitment of 433 People for 59 Projects... Interested Participants Can Visit Local Community Centers for Registration Until June 26
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) is implementing the "COVID-19 Overcome Hope Job Project," which nearly doubles and significantly expands the existing public work projects to address large-scale unemployment and job issues caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), recruiting 433 people for 59 projects.
This project is a measure to provide more public jobs to vulnerable employment groups experiencing economic difficulties due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and residents who need livelihood support due to unemployment or business closures.
In particular, the district is expanding the project to utilize personnel for quarantine, civil complaint guidance, and other necessary tasks as needed to respond to COVID-19 and alleviate unemployment, recruiting participants for the hope job project.
The recruitment fields include ▲Local Environmental Maintenance (14 projects such as alley cleaning, illegal poster removal) ▲Public Work Support (23 projects such as parking management, civil complaint guidance) ▲Youth Support (14 projects such as library work, administrative DB management) ▲Local Specialized Projects (8 projects such as local food supply, protection of abandoned animals), totaling 59 projects.
The support target is residents aged 18 or older who can work, with priority given to low-income vulnerable groups (those with a standard median income of 65% or less and family assets of 200 million KRW or less).
Those wishing to participate can apply by visiting their local community service center by Friday, June 26. Selected residents will work from July 20 to December 20 for up to 6 hours per day (3 hours per day for seniors aged 65 or older).
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “We will do our best to create public jobs in various fields to restore the local economy devastated by COVID-19 and to establish an employment safety net for vulnerable groups.”
