Chains and other abuse tools found in Changnyeong child's home... Police verifying usage status
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Jo] Numerous items suspected to be abuse tools, such as chains, were found in the home of a 9-year-old elementary school student who suffered severe abuse from her stepfather and biological mother.
According to the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency on the 10th, the police conducted a search and seizure on the 5th with the cooperation of the stepfather B (35), seizing about 10 items including a frying pan, chains, padlocks, and plastic rods.
The police are currently confirming with A (9) whether the seized items were actually used during the abuse.
The abused child, A, recently told a child protection agency that "I was chained so I couldn't go outside, and the chain was only removed when doing housework."
On the 29th of last month, A also explained the abuse to a citizen who rescued her, saying, "I was hit with a rod and tied up with chains."
Based on these statements, the police believe the seized items will serve as important clues and evidence in understanding the abuse.
This case came to light when a citizen found A wandering on a road in Changnyeong at around 6:20 p.m. on the 29th of last month, dressed in pajamas, and reported it to the police. At that time, A reportedly had dark bruises on her eyes.
The police subsequently booked stepfather B and biological mother C without detention on charges including child abuse and began a thorough investigation. According to the police, they are suspected of habitually abusing A through beatings from 2018 until recently.
