SK Plasma, First Domestic Albumin Supply to NATO
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] SK Plasma announced on the 10th that it has been selected as the final supplier of albumin in the 2020 blood product pharmaceutical tender organized by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Procurement Agency. This is the first time a domestic company has supplied pharmaceuticals to NATO.
SK Plasma plans to supply albumin to NATO as early as the third quarter of this year. Albumin is a blood product used to treat hypoalbuminemia caused by nephrotic syndrome and liver cirrhosis, as well as hemorrhagic shock. It is scheduled to be provided to the Afghan military and police, with the order size amounting to 900,000 USD (approximately 1.07 billion KRW).
SK Plasma explained that the participation of a domestic company in a project previously limited to NATO member countries was made possible with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, which has held briefings on NATO procurement market participation since 2018 and supported domestic companies' bidding efforts.
