According to Jindo-gun on the 10th, this project, which is being implemented for the first time this year with a budget of 100 million won from the county, plans to reduce the population by focusing on pest control in irrigation canals, rivers, and embankments, which are major overwintering sites of rice brown planthoppers, using drones and wide-area sprayers.
The county plans to minimize damage to farms through proactive pest control, considering the characteristics of rice brown planthoppers that overwinter under rice field ridges and fallen leaves at the foot of mountains and begin activity from June.
Also, this pest control will be carried out without harming the surrounding environment by using eco-friendly organic agricultural materials.
A representative from the Jindo-gun Agricultural Technology Center said, “Since damage from various pests is expected due to the warm winter weather, we have formed a joint pest control team early and are continuously monitoring pest occurrence and providing pest control guidance,” adding, “We will focus administrative efforts to minimize damage to farmers.”
