Gwangju City Council Members Kim Ikju, Park Mijeong, Hwang Hyuntaek, and Kim Haksil Receive 'Outstanding Legislative Award'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan Council announced on the 10th that Gwangju Metropolitan Council members Kim Ikju, Park Mijeong, Hwang Hyuntaek, and Kim Haksil have been selected as recipients of the ‘8th Excellent Legislative Award’ hosted by the National Association of Chairs of City and Provincial Councils (Chair Shin Woncheol).
The ‘Excellent Legislative Award’ is an award established to discover and disseminate outstanding legislative activities carried out by members of city and provincial councils nationwide, aiming to enhance legislative capabilities.
It is awarded to council members who have made significant contributions to regional development over the course of a year, including improving residents’ quality of life and checking the executive branch on municipal issues.
Council member Kim Ikju has conducted legislative activities for regional development and citizens, including checking the executive branch through administrative audits. He also contributed to the successful hosting of the Gwangju World Swimming Championships by securing the budget, conducting safety inspections, and promotional activities.
Council member Park Mijeong, an expert in social welfare, has devoted herself to enhancing the welfare of Gwangju citizens and legislative and policy activities by checking the executive branch and proposing alternatives through in-depth administrative audits, municipal questions, and 5-minute free speeches.
Council member Hwang Hyuntaek has engaged in field-centered legislative activities communicating with citizens, faithfully monitored and checked various municipal issues, proposed alternatives, and worked on legislative and policy activities for Gwangju’s development and improving citizens’ quality of life, as well as striving for local autonomy suited to regional characteristics.
Council member Kim Haksil has worked to nurture future talents, improve the educational environment, promote culture, tourism, and sports, and establish Gwangju as an Asian cultural hub city. She has also contributed to legislation, policy formulation, and resolving civil complaints to improve the quality of life for 1.5 million Gwangju citizens.
The awardees said, “We understand this award as a call to further dedicate ourselves and work hard for Gwangju’s development and the enhancement of citizen welfare, and we will carry out our legislative duties with responsibility and sincerity during the remaining period of the 8th council.”
