Korean Air Implements Zone-Based Boarding as Part of 'Social Distancing' Measures on Flights
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Je-hoon] Korean Air announced on the 10th that, as part of social distancing measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), it will implement zone-based boarding for economy class passengers on all domestic and international flights.
The system Korean Air is implementing this time means subdividing the aircraft cabin into zones, setting the boarding order by zone, and boarding accordingly. Korean Air decided that passengers seated in the rear rows will board first in order.
The cabin zones are subdivided according to the size of the aircraft. The zone number is printed on the boarding pass so that passengers can easily check their boarding order. Passengers in the rear rows are assigned lower numbers, and as an exception, passengers accompanied by infants or young children, elderly passengers, or those needing assistance can board first regardless of the zone number.
Korean Air explained, "As part of social distancing measures to prevent COVID-19 infection," adding, "By subdividing the boarding order by zone instead of having all economy class passengers line up at once, we prevent congestion and secure distancing between passengers. Boarding from the rear rows minimizes the possibility of contact between passengers inside the cabin."
