An Seungnam, Guri Mayor: "Let's Use Dormant Social and Club Fees as Disaster Relief Funds for Members"
[Asia Economy (Guri) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] An Seung-nam, mayor of Guri City, proposed distributing dormant membership fees from group accounts such as social clubs or hobby groups to members as disaster relief funds.
On the 9th, Mayor An suggested that if membership fees, which have accumulated unused due to cancellations of various events and gatherings caused by COVID-19, are distributed to members, the money could be immediately used to revitalize the local economy.
Mayor An's idea to utilize disaster relief funds was inspired by a recent case where the local NGO Environmental Youth Group distributed 60,000 won per person to 23 members as disaster relief funds.
Accordingly, Guri City plans to first encourage social groups or gatherings involving public officials to use their membership fees, and further expand this into a citizen movement.
